This is bliki entry based on Everything You Need to Know to Install Tiger. I''l be adding important changes to my set-up for future reference.
Make a backup
- Plug-in the Fire Wire drive and format it drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with Disk Utility
- Run Carbon Copy Cloner, mark 'bootable' in prefs and clone original Drive
- Check if you can run apps and open files from the Fire Wire Disk
Download and install Carbon Copy Cloner
Boot from Fire Wire disk by pressing alt on start-up
Install Tiger
- Before starting the installation format the drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" by Disk Utility from the menu. This will ensure are new install instead of an update
- On starting run software update
- Turn on the firewall! Open System Preferences > sharing > firewall > start
Boot from the Tiger CD by pressing alt on start-up
Install Applications
- Add Quicksilver, Huevos, Firefox, Thunderbird and Fire to the start up items: System Preferences > Accounts > My Account > Startup Items
Install Quicksilver, Huevos, Fire, Firefox and Thunderbird
Install Cyber Duck
Set up preferences
- Set battery as show time
- Set Fire chat windows to Adium Tabbed to save screen space
- Import Firefox bookmarks
Install firefox extensions Web Developer, Bug me not, Sage
Copy Files from the Fire Wire disk
- Open iTunes and import "iTunes Music library.xml" from the Fire Wire disk
- Copy /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.ranchero.Huevos.plist
- Copy the Keychains from /Users/YourUserName/Library/Keychains and double click them to open them in KeyChain Access
- Copy the Firefox setting from /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Firefox
Configure RealPlayer to use HTTP only
I had trouble viewing Real Player files in my browser. To fix this I had to configure RealPlayer to use HTTP only.
Preferences > Transport.
Select Use manually configured...
Click Configure...
Disable (clear) all transports except for HTTP.
Misc
Installed Darwinports to install utils like wget
Terminal
- Open up ~/.profile and add the following lines:
export CLICOLOR=1
export LSCOLORS=ExFxCxDxBxegedabagacad
alias ll="ls -l"
